DYSTROPHY CAMPAIGN

Hello everyone, my name is Paul O'Brien and I am the proud father of Keown Luis. Keown is 3 years of age and was diagnosed with Becker Muscular Dystrophy in august 2005. That day we received the news about Keown will stay with me for the rest of my life. All your hopes and dreams get thrown out the window in a split second. When you have children you care for them, cherish them and give them your heart. They are your life! Nothing can come between you.
When a child falls over and hurts themselves we can make them feel better we wipe away their tears we clean their wounds and give them a kiss and a cuddle. The same when they are not well and we stay up through the night and help them get better. But with Muscular Dystrophy, we alone cannot fight this as there is no cure as of yet. All we can do is be there for our son when times are good and when times are hard. When you get told something bad about your Childs health, no words alone can say how you feel. The words devastating, hurt and angry all come to mind. Your heart feels like it is broken in two, and that it will never mend. You want to do everything you can for your child but in truth, with this disease, there is nothing you can do but your best for them, enjoying your time together. You want everything to be OK, but deep down in your heart you know that unless there is a cure the long terms prospects are bleak. That is why I can't sit back and just wait for the future to come. I need to feel like I'm doing something to help, even if it is very little in the great scheme of things. That is why I'm doing a cycle ride from Lands End to John o Groats in may 2006, in aid of Muscular Dystrophy Research. I am just an ordinary family man but at times like this you just want to do something to try and raise funds towards research and also awareness of Muscular Dystrophy. Anyone reading this who has children will understand where I am coming from, and no doubt you would do the same. All we can do is to try and do our best by helping in some way or other. If anyone feels they can help in any way either by sponsoring the bike ride, or making a donation that would be excellent. every penny counts. But it's not just about the money. If you have a business and would like to support this cause in any way you can then I would be very grateful to hear from you. Maybe you could offer a bed for the night en route or even help with a support vehicle during the ride? Any form of help will be much appreciated. Please click on the contacts page to get in touch..
